How is California Chef different from other meal delivery programs?

California Chef delivers fresh, healthy, fully prepared, personalized meals directly to your door. No other meal delivery service completely customizes menus, meals, and calories down to the ingredient level like California Chef! All your likes, dislikes, and dietary restrictions are taken into consideration for each and every meal. And best of all, it’s done at NO ADDITIONAL COST! We really want you to love every meal!

Is there any additional cooking or preparation required to the meals?

All meals are delivered fully prepared by our highly trained chefs. While all meals are safe to eat without being heated, some meals are designed to be ready to eat, whereas others take just a few minutes in the oven or microwave. Heating instructions are provided for all meals that require heating.

Are the meals frozen?

No. All meals are delivered fresh. We prepare your meals on the day of delivery, so your meals are delivered as fresh as can be! They are never frozen.

What type of meal plans are offered?

California Chef offers 6 different main meal plans: Weight Loss, Health Management, Vegetarian, Family, Seniors, and Athletic Performance. Since all our plans are completely customizable, each can be tailored to your dietary guidelines. If you wish, we can happily make your meal plan gluten-free, paleo, heart-healthy, etc. If you are unsure of which plan to choose, just give us a call at 818-993-3631, and we’ll help you get started.

Are you able to accommodate special requests such as gluten-free, dairy-free, or low-sodium meals?

Yes. Since all of California Chef’s plans use a personal chef approach to tailor each meal for every client, special requests are never a problem.

What nutrition guidelines does California Chef follow?

Loaded with superfoods and antioxidants, each portion-controlled meal is nutritionally balanced with lean protein, fresh vegetables, and healthy carbs and fats. Nothing is ever fried, and our meals are always prepared with low sugar and low sodium.

How many calories will I get each day?

This will be personalized for your specific dietary goals, and we will calculate your daily calories based on your age, weight, height, and activity level. If you have been instructed by a doctor, nutritionist, trainer, or other health professional to stick with a daily calorie count, we will adhere to it for you.”

What ratio of protein, fat, and carbohydrates are in each meal?

While this will be calculated specifically for you based on your personal dietary goals, the average is 30–40% protein, 30–40% carbohydrates, and 30% fats. If needed, we can adjust your parameters at any time during your service.

What kinds of food will I receive?

Your specific meals will be determined by your individual “likes” and “dislikes” along with your specific dietary goals and preferences. California Chef offers an unrivaled variety of traditional favorites, seasonal fare, and international specialties, ensuring you will never get bored with our offerings. And we value your input and feedback! If, for example, you want a salad in every delivery, or a pizza once a week, or fish every Friday, just let us know!

Is there a limit on how many foods I can “like” and/or “dislike”?

No. Unlike many other meal delivery services, California Chef Services does not limit how many foods you can “like” and/or “dislike” on your preferences list.

What if I don’t want to lose weight?

No problem! Many of our clients have goals other than weight loss, and we will work with you to achieve your specific objectives, whether you’re looking to gain muscle, simply eat healthier, maintain your current weight—you name it. Just let us know your goals, and we will create a custom plan to help you efficiently achieve your specific objectives. We can even help you gain weight the heathy way.

Do you offer vegetarian or vegan meals?

Yes, we have a Vegetarian Plan, and through your preferences form, you can choose to make your plan vegan if desired.

Do you use organic ingredients?

Yes, many of our standard ingredients are organic. We also have an organic upgrade option available to ensure that your proteins are organic too.

What if I am allergic to certain foods?

Simply note any allergy you have on your preferences form during sign-up, and our chefs will ensure you never receive foods containing your allergen(s) in any of your meals. However, it is likely that we use your allergen in our kitchen for other clients, and we cannot 100% guarantee that trace amounts of your allergen will never make contact with your meals. So, if your allergy is severe or life-threatening, we would have to politely decline to cook for you.

Do you offer Keto, HCG, or Paleo diets?

While we are strong advocates of a healthy, balanced diet, if you prefer another approach, we can accommodate any diet.

Should I talk to my physician before I start a meal plan?

It is always a good idea to discuss starting a new meal plan with your physician, especially if you have a health condition or want to lose weight. If your doctor has any guidelines for you, we’d be happy to incorporate them into your plan.

How long have you been in business?

How do I heat the meals?

Each meal has heating instructions printed on its container. Generally, our meals are either ready to eat (salads, wraps, etc.) or simply require 5 to10 minutes heating at 375° in the oven, or 2 to 4 minutes heating in the microwave—it’s your choice. Our special “Black and Gold” containers are microwave and oven safe!

How do I know which meals to eat at what time?

Each meal will have a meal designation next to the name of the dish: “B” for breakfast, “L” for lunch, “D” for dinner, and “S” for snack. The calorie values and macro rations are approximately the same for each of your main meals (B, L, D), so if you want breakfast for dinner, go for it!

Do I also need to exercise?

This depends on your personal goals. Each plan is customized to achieve your specific dietary objectives. If you are trying to lose weight, exercise can be an important component of your overall plan and will lead to faster results than just eating the meals we provide you. But many of our clients lose and keep off the weight they want to by simply enjoying California Chef meals.

What beverages can I drink?

This depends on your personal goals. Each plan is customized to achieve your specific dietary objectives. This means each plan will provide you with the number of calories you need to achieve your goals. Drinking beverages that contain significant calories (soda, juice, alcohol, etc.) can delay achieving the results you desire. That is why we recommend drinking primarily water and green tea and limiting high-calorie beverages.

Should I eat all the food even if I am not hungry?

Although the component allocation and caloric value of each of your meals is calculated to help you achieve your specific dietary goals, you shouldn’t force yourself to continue eating if you’re not hungry. But if your portion size and appetite is not matching up more than just occasionally, contact us, and we’ll adjust your parameters.

What if I eat all my meals and I am still hungry?

Although the component allocation and caloric value of each of your meals is calculated to help you achieve your specific dietary goals, your meal plan might need some tinkering after you first start up with us, or if your personal circumstances significantly change at any time. If you’re feeling hungry after meals, or portion sizes don’t seem quite right, just contact us, and we’ll adjust your parameters. We not only want you to achieve your goals, we want you to be satisfied the entire time you’re striving to do so!


Delivery Basics:

What if I am out of town often?

No problem! Many of our clients frequently travel. Just arrange delivery days with your meal delivery coordinator and we will make sure you only receive meals when you need them. If your travel plans unexpectedly change, we simply require 72 hours notice to accommodate your new schedule.

Do I need to be home for each delivery?

No. If you are not home, our delivery specialist will safely leave each delivery at your door in a specially designed insulated bag with ice packs to ensure that your food stays cold for you until you get home.

What do I do with the empty bags and ice packs?

Just leave them outside your door on the day of your next delivery, and we’ll pick them up.

How often are my meals delivered?

Meals are delivered Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm, with your specific schedule determined by the plan you select.

What locations do you deliver to?

Meal delivery is available to the Greater Los Angeles and Thousand Oaks areas.
